Default MSD ignition & wires

i recently installed a msd 6al ignition in my car with a blaster 3 external coil it has a 8200 rpm limit pill in it but for some reason it passed that and went to 8346 (saw this from the reading on my vafc) before i tested it when i first installed it it went to 8202 which i think is fine. what could cause this? also is there much gains by getting the msd 8mm plug wires installed? by the way its a b16a in a 91 hatch. thanks.

Well I don't know anything about all that stuff but I do know that resistors, which I am totally assuming the pills are made from. Fluctuate a bit, not an enormous amount but a little bit, If they are made from resistors (and I might be totally off all together) that could be the reason. Also over time resistors change their values, which can prove to be annoying. A general rule for them is to be within 10% of their desired value, this might be the problem for you. If I'm totally off please slap me around and set me straight. I really am just taking a stab at it.

EDIT: as far as the plugs I was always told, by the techs, that stock honda plugs outperform the aftermarket ones. But I am not an authority on the topic. I'm sure it changes a bit when you upgrade your ignition system.

You don't even need the MSD box. The stock honda ignition is proven over 600whp. The MSD wires suck even worse. Stick with the OEM wires and I would expect that MSD pills to vary some as well.

thanks for the info. so would a new pill solve this since they tend to change their value over time or is that how its going to be.

I believe he was telling you do drop the ignition system and sell it. He knows his stuff, he has a 10 second civic.

But if you must keep it, getting a new pill might help or maybe not. I'm not sure what the resistor value of the pills are but if they are within 10% of the intended value that is about as close as it gets. You might want to try a new pill, but I would take any advice that 60-1ek gives he knows exactly what what to do and has proven it.
