Apexi VAFC Questions
I'm considering getting a VAFC for my 99 civic ex. a few things bout the car; aem cai w/bypass, dc sports 4-1 header, bosal muffler. There's not all that much done to the car, but i was wondering if the vafc would make a noticeable difference in horses. I would of course have it professionally installed and dynoed properly. How much power could i expect. will fuel econonmy get worse, better, or no difference?
Sure, you will gain a few whp if the vehicle is tuned.
You will spend around $300 on the vafc & $125-$150 to have it tuned total of $450.
Is it worth it? No
A d16y8 is going to be slow unless you turbocharge it.

a greddy kit would be good for your car...heres the thing, you buy the vafc, and get it tuned, but then you upgrade your exhaust, or cams or cam gears or wutever, now you have to get it retuned, for optimum horsepower. if you think you're gonna upgrade to better stuff, save your money and time and wait on the vafc, the power increase might be 5-15 horsepower. i think fuel mileage will stay the same, until you rip on it

and correct me if im wrong, but i think there is an "anti rip on" sensor through 1st gear and some of 2nd gear. im not 100% sure, but i think there's a sensor that keeps you from revving the motor fast in those gears, so in essence, you're still making the same horsepower, but it slows your revs down. i think theres a way to take it off, cuz my friend swapped a d16y8 into his eg after her blew his z6, and was able to get rid of the sensor

i just need a little more power. a turbo would b nice but i'm not lookin to spend a lot of money. that's y if i got the vafc that should b it. an exhaust would b nice but i don't like the sound of it on an auto tranny. Does the vafc add torque or is it more for top-end power for after vtec kicks in? i feel the hp is fine, i just have no torque. That's y a camshaft interests me, but i don't wanna spend 500 for something that adds 5 ft. lbs. of torque and 2 hp.
If your going to install a camshaft, your going to want a camgear & a fuel controller such as a vafc to have the setup tuned for proper a/f mixture & vtec engagement.
Personally, I wouldnt invest any money into a sohc setup.
