How can I make my tranny last?
I recently got a 99 Acura Cl...and already...supposedly...my torque converter is freezing up...between 40-50mph...every once in a while the whole car will shimmy and shake like it doesnt want to go into the next gear...IM so pissed cause I just traded in my old car after putting 1200 into that tranny just to have it break again....and my warranty on this car is up.
So my question is...until I can afford to have the torque converter replaced...can i flush my tranny fluid and is there any kind of additive to help or prolong my torque converter?

I am pretty sure CL/TL trannies are horrible with reliability.

when this problem occurs, is it under acceleration or just light cruising? i work for a honda dealer and the accords have a similar problem under light acceleration around 40-45. the problem with the accords is related to a sticking egr valve...acura cl may be similar.
and some V6 models have an extension on the factory warranty concerning the automatic transmission. i don't have any acura info to know if the CL applies to that.

hmm....this sucks!!!!! umm it occurs when im accelerating for the most part...but not when im really pushing on the gas accelerating fast...just driving regular...for now..it just does it every once in a while...not everytime i accelerate
and yeah from what ive been told..only use honda fluid..but the mechanic at rs imports told me he had some kind of additive to put in the tranny to see if it will help for now...until i can afford to get it fixed

Wat u do to get a sample of the tranny fluid is simply by taking out the dipstick of the tranny....or u can unplug the nut thats near the wheelwell and open it really slowly and u will get a sample of the fluid........i never had your problem before, but i could tell u one thing...usually when there is something wrong with an auto. tranny, its usually the fluid that destroys the tranny, cause its too low or never changed. If its dark red, or brown, leave the fluid in there......like my accord, it was brown, had a burnt smell, and water too....so i changed it, then it started to slip cause the tranny relied on the debris that in the fluid for gripping....its kinda like it created its own glue with the use of its own trash.
U say it wont shift up when it hits 40mph? well for most auto tranny, that is the stage when the tranny fluid flows out of the torque converter....ummm so im not sure exactly wat the problem is. If u bring it to a mechanic, they are gonna tell u that they arent sure wat the problem is, wat the have to do is take out the engine and tranny, and find out exactly wats wrong with it. And yes they are gonna charge u money for that.......So if i was u...i would do a complete motorswap.....im for real.
BTW....if ure looking for a torque converter for your car...i got a spare torque converter that i bought for my accord about a year ago....its a rebuilt and been collecting dust.....Price $120.00 obo

and when me and my wife were looking to buy a new car we hired someone to do it for us. our credit union has a guy they refer to customers looking to buy new cars. he even does the dealing for you. anyway, we told him about some lexus is300's that we saw there. he told us the history of the car and the problems it had already. we went and took it for a test drive anyway and he was right about the shit that was fucked up on it. he also told us to never buy from hillsboro auto mart, all their cars are that way.

This is the internet. You're just supposed to talk up whatever you do know as if you're a salesman for it. i.e. I drive a Supra and a Corolla therefore 2JZ is the greatest and so is the 4A and I don't care about anything else because it's all crap since I don't have it. I also have a stack of $20 bills in front of me, therefore 20>50 and 20>100 and 20>1000. $20 bill FTW.
