Default B16 swap into a 96-98?

I know I can easily find a B16-18 for a 92-95 Civic. My friend says that the same engines can be used in a 96-98 Civic with no problem. Is this true? If it is why does the description always say "92-95"? He just said that the engine bay is pretty much exactly the same, so I can take a 98 up to a shop that does 95 Civics and have no hassle. I just want some input because I like the newer Civics better, and I am throwing in a B18C1 as soon as I get the mofo.

not as easy as a 92-95 but with some engine mounts/brackets from a 99-00 si it wont be a problem. expect to spend about $150 more for the extra parts

You will need to have to get your wiring switched to OBD-1 and also you will need to use an OBD1 or OBD0 ECU. The reason for this is because all the OBD-2 blocks had two crank sensers and when using an OBD2 ecu with an OBD-1 block (which only has one crank sensor) The ecu will be looking for the reading on the second crank sensor. Since the ecu will not be getting a reading from the second crank sensor (b/c it's not there) it can throw CEL's and cause the engine not to run at full potential (from what i understand) And trust me OBD1 P72 ECU's are not cheap. As far as physically dropping it in, yeah it will fit fine. Just be sure to use B series motor mounts. If i remember collectly you only need the rear tranny mount and the passenger side motor mount. I just bought the whole set off of someone though b/c it never hurts to use all new mounts. If you need a set i still have them.

Just FYI-the swap i had in my 4dr EK was a B16a3 with YS1 tranny, using a P72obd1 ECU.

If your motor is obd1 you will need to get a obd1 harness for it's plugs & rewire your obd2 sohc harness to have the following:

1. vtec oil pressure
2. vtec solenoid
3. knock (depends on ecu)
4. obd1 distributor plugs
5. obd1 injector plugs, or use the injectors off your sohc same thing...
6. obd1 alternator plug
7. rewire iacv from a 3 plug to a 2 plug & repin it at the ecu

Mounts & misc:
1. throttle cable for the motor you are running i.e. gsr tc for a gsr swap
2. 99-00 dohc civic si rear L mount
3. 94-95 dohc delsol ac bracket
4. obd2 to obd1 conversion harness
5. coolant, uper & lower dohc radiator hoses for the swap you are doing
6. oil & oil filter

There is prolly some minor things I missed.
