now remember some physics...

A body in motion will stay in motion unless an equal yet oposite force acts upon it...

so think about this... you rev your motor (flywheel spining) you release the clutch and the "oposite" force being your tires on the road (traction) with the lighter flywheel (if you have traction) the motor will tend to bog easier, or if you over rev to get over the bogging you will spin...

now with the stock flywheel... same situation... you will be able to launch lower and transfer initial TQ easier (getting off the line)...

The lighter you go the better for Road racing app's. When you road race you do alot of early shifting depending on course position. On a Vtec motor this can take you completely out of your power band. The lighter flywheels i.e. 8.8lb. will allow you to get back to the power band faster. If you are a granny shifter though this flywheel could hurt you.

If you drag race I would go with the heavier flywheel. You will launch alot harder and if you are on slicks, you won't ever be below 6000 and this is where you pick the most benefits with the lighter wheels. You shift transitions will be smoother and lose less momentum with the heavier wheel.
