Default turbo crx....smoke from valvecover breather

well i turbo'd a frineds crx with a b16 in it, and the turbo seems to be leaking oil kinda bad, it ran okay for about 3 hours but then all of a sudden it started running like shit at low rpms, but fine on boost........

when i pulled the head i noticed his valves didnt seem to be closing the whole way, so this is where im wondering of the smoke is coming from......

it smokes like a bitch from the little valvecover breather hole.

someone told me bad ringlands or melted ringlands or rings, but that doesnt seem right to me.

his motor ingested 3 quarts of oil!!! now it looks like sludge inside the motor, intercooler was almost full, the BOV blew oil and all charge pipes were full of oil....

just wanted to get some opinions on what else could be wrong with the motor NOT the turbo, i know thats fucked up! for sure

smoke coming out of the breather means the motor is experiencing "blow by". there is excess pressure accumulating in the crankcase and the valvecover is were its venting out. the turbo would have nothin to do with this, neither would the valve seats. valve seats can cause a loss in compression but will not cause blow by. his ringlands are busted on at least one piston

3 hours tho, wow! did u forget to add extra fuel with the turbo kit

my cobra has bad rings and it spits smoke and oil out from the PCV valve and the dipstick.

i just put it on and fabbed up the piping for him, with the good ole sawz-all and some redneck know how, that all......he took it home said it boosted 15psi from a t3/60-1 .42&.48 A/Rs. so i dont know what happened. he has dsm 450s but i dont think he adjusted anything.

when he was driving in 5th gear he said he went to pass a car and left it in 5th and heard a little "pop" i said its fucked lets pull it, he fails to believe me

I think that you need to have serious cankcase venilation with turbo applications, like make sure you hook your pcv valve up to your intake side of your turbo and the valve cover breather up too, cause the boost will build up cankcase pressure quick is what i heard -Ben

the crankcase ventilation has nothin to do with the turbo. its all in the motor, and since its stock motor it should have a normal amount of crankcase pressure. just because the turbo is creating boost and creating more cylinder pressure doesnt mean some should be blowing by into the crankcase. this is different however with a built motor with larger clearances and more room for heat expansion
