distributor timming for single cam?

does anyone know how to do distributor timming for a D15B. I was told that I have to bring piston 1 to position 0. Does this have to be done or is there any way to do this without moving the pistons?

It's pretty simple to do ignition timing. Get a timing gun, jump the ecu, point the gun at the crank pulley, and look through the line up holes.
