Default O2 sensor question....

will a bad o2 sensor cause alot of smoking from the exaust?because not every time but the majority of the time when i get on it i notice alot more than normal whiteish smoke cumming from the tail pipe.mainly at high rpms.the previous owner said it had a bad 02 sensor, but im trying to look at it at all angles to get the problem fixed(bad 02 sensor, bad rings,badvalve.etc....)..if anyone has had this problem or knows what could be wrong please reply.i need to get this thing fixed pronto..Thanks in advance.

white smoke is oil. is it constantly smoking or only when you go from a stop? if it only does it from a stop, it's most likely your valve seals. if it does it constantly, prolly your rings.

a bad 02 sensor will cause your car to run like ass, ie too rich - too lean.

blueish smoke is oil, white smoke is coolent, black or grey is rich (too much gas) fuel mixture, but you should try the o2 sensor. a new one can only help and its the the cheepist fix

could be a mixture of both coolant and oil, but the problem as you are describing it points to valve seals. since it mainly does it from a stop, 99% chance it's oil, and it's most likely your valve seals. i would take it to a reputable mechanic and have it looked at, i'm sure they could give you a ballpark figure as well.

Do a compression/leakdown test. White smoke could be a blown head gasket.

Your car is screwed for a while. If you are looking for a cheap fix you won't find it.
