Default cam gear adjusting?

i have a 94 accord ex. I just got an AEM cam gear and i was wondering if there is a recommended setting for it. I know that the best way is to dyno tune it, but i think that it's not worth it since the car is almost stock (i/e). am not expecting great gains, but it's just time for changing the belt + i picked the gear for cheap. The guy who had it before dyno tunend it and it's advanced at 3.5. Again, i dont know what kind of mods he had so i dont know if this advance would do me any good. so if some one had an experience with it and/or think that setting it at a certain point will show gains, plz help me figure that out.

as far as settings goes, each car will act a little different and i personally recommend a dyno, i myself went about 3 degrees the opposite way i should have just off of the way the car felt.

so basically what i understood from the link in AEM's website is that by advancing, i can improve the performance at lower rpm's. And the opposite is true for higher rpm's. But since it's a vtec, which engages at about 4800 rpm's in my car, wouldn't it be logical to imrove lower rpm?
