Default D series Questions

I know, I know its a D series, but hey some of us have to start somewhere, no lets keep this simple, just need some tech help.

I have pondering the idea of mating a z6 intake to my b15d7 w/ a b16 TB and a CRX si Cam...

Is there any special advice, any type of malfunction, any other part I will need to make this work?

I will be taking off the head to do this install so the motor can have fresh gaskets and all....is there any aftermarket gasket I should use or will the LPS have everything I need?

And how would you rate this job, 1 to 10, 1 = simple as an oil change, 10 = total disassembly and reassembly of an engine.

Any ideas for the total gain in HP and torque from this setup....
I already have a DC Sports 4-2-1 Header and Exhaust

Its not that hard, but if the intake has never been taken off, you'll have to fight with the intake manifold support bracket. Its a pain.

You shouldn't have a probelm doing it.

Hp gain... Well... If your current intake has the TB injectoion looking intake ( but with 4 injectors still ) I'd say you'll feel a desent improvement, but if the current intake is shaped simular to the Z6 one, then you may not feel anything at all.

I swapped from a DX cam to an Si cam ( crx terms ) and didn't FEEL any difference...

D-series ownz BTW !! Screw the B. There is something wrong if you want more than 300whp in a FWD daily driven car... A D-series can make that kinda power with just rods/pistons/turbo.

SOOO... Don't talk down on the D.

Also, screw the intake/cam/header/TB crap. Grab a zex kit used for $300 and get some real power, then when you can get a turbo kit. After the turbo you can worry about all the little stuff. Why spend $1000 on 15hp, when you can get 80+hp for the same price ( via www.homemadeturbo.com )

Hey, I rep the D's

I've got a ZC SOHC VTEC and I'm parting together my own turbo kit right now

There's nothing like a D series that can whoop up on B's

Go turbo or if u cant afford it yet go with a wet kit

That cam wont make a difference, nor will the intake mani... I would honestly buy a z6 head and do a full mini me swap....... youll be spending about the same amt. either way....

I am happy with the d series and my b series.

i agree with kris in going with a full z set up.

my friend has run a full sohc z set up in a crx. with tuning it makes it a fun little ride, now compared to his sickly rebuilt blueprinted type r or his old ls vtec ... well he doesn't want to compare it, just enjoy it.

i have a d16a6 Y8 set up and it runs well together.

I would think stock gaskets would work for you. The intake mani will be a huge bizotch to take off most likely and be prepared to scrape the old gasket off.

Have you looked at the cams to see the difference in the lobes?

You may have to change the timing belt due to the different head going on the block, if you do, buy OEM.

hope you can post on d-series soon there are some guys that really could help you out on there.

on difficulty...well to me if you have the right tools and knowledge available the difficulty goes up or down

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

You just say that cuz you're too cheap to do a B series. J/K

Anyways, back on topic I would do a Y8 head, intake manifold and throttle body cuz they flow the best for the D series. Hey John why not sell him yours you dont need it, sell him your whole swap and get a H22. That would be nice.
