Default looking for a good shop

im looking for a good shop in the tampa bay area that will swap a low mileage gs-r or a civic si motor in my ek coupe. my current transmission is shot and i cant see rebuilding it or buying another one b/c i want to do this in the near future anyways. Im preferably not looking for a backyard mechanic, what i am looking for is a shop that will get the motor for me and install it for a relatively good price with a warranty on the motor. Im not looking for JDM here b/c i dont have the money for it.

Thanks,
John

You will pay more by taking it to an expensive shop.
They will order the motor from a distributor such as hmotorsonline.com or osakajdmmotors.com & they will mark it up.

They will then charge you $600-700 to install the motor & they will keep your old motor ontop of that.

Your best bet is to purchase a obd2a gsr swap from a motor distributor that is well known & have it shipped to a local mechanic that does swaps or a well known person's house that does swaps etc.

Then pay $500-600 to have the motor installed plus the minor parts you need like a rear b16 mount bracket & a delsol dohc vtec ac bracket & a throttle cable etc...

Good Luck.

If you have a shop order the motor for you, yes, you are paying a mark-up, but if the motor goes in and has a problem, then the shop will usually not charge to take the motor back out, have it replaced and put the new one back in. If you order it yourself and have a shop put it in and there is a problem, you just cost yourself a lot of money in labor. I only mark up my swaps at my shop $100-$200, and with that I overnight the check for the motor so to get it delivered faster, and honor the suppliers start-up warranty. I do charge more than a backyard mechanic though, $750 Labor, but once the motor is in my shop, the customer drops their car off at 9 am and drives home that afternoon with their new motor.
