will a d16z6 work on a d16y8 block?...just curious.

i think the y8 head on the z6 block gives you higher compression...

Correct, Z6 head on a Y8 block will lower compression. Y8 head on a Z6 block will raise compression.

Correct, which is what the Y8 head does on a Z6 block, however the Z6 head has been said to FLOW better. I have yet to see any solid proof of this though (flow charts).
