wouldn't it be better and cheaper to just build one? 2k for a short block seems a little crazy. just my .2

You can build a shortblock your self, but not many people know how or have the confidence to build a motor.
Building an ls shortblock for ls/vtec runs about $1400-1800 depending on your setup.
