The y8 are in the newer civics and the z6 are in the eg and si delso. I would go wit the y8 only cuz its newer.

Spoonfed I am tired of your derogatory remarks towards SOHC engines, which you obviously know NOTHING about. The Y8 does not have a "shitty" bottom end. There is absolutely NO DIFFERENCE in strength between the Y8 and Z6 bottom ends. The only difference that you will find in the bottom end is the piston-to-deck height and the compression height of the piston, no difference in strength at all. I'll go ahead and list some of the major differences between the two engines so maybe you'll learn something and quit giving misinformation.

D16Y8: The shortblock has slightly higher compression and a knock sensor. The head is a little more restrictive but has a more aggressive cam and quench pads in the combustion chambers to help reduce detonation. The intake manifold and exhaust manifolds of the Y8 both flow better than the Z6. The transmission of the Y8 has the same gear ratios, but stronger steel shift forks.

D16Z6: Has a better flowing head and has the P28 ecu, which is OBDI and more easily programmed/tuned.

If you ask me, the Y8 is a much better platform to start with. It can also be easily converted to OBDI, the main advantage of the Z6. Also, FYI if you want to bitch about the bottom end of a D16, the stock sleeves of a D series are just as strong, if not stronger, than a B Series and they also come with STOCK block girdles instead of just main bearing caps like most B Series. With just an aftermarket piston/rod upgrade the D Series bottom end will have way more potential than a STOCK B series bottom end.
