Whats better a d16z6 or a d16y8 ?
Z6 Z6 Z6!!!! i raced a y8 and killed it and it had fuel pressure regulator, skunk@ intake manifold, DC saport headerback exgaust, cold air intake, and new msd wires. and i had my intake and axleback exhaust and headers. so...

D16Y8: The shortblock has slightly higher compression and a knock sensor. The head is a little more restrictive but has a more aggressive cam and quench pads in the combustion chambers to help reduce detonation. The intake manifold and exhaust manifolds of the Y8 both flow better than the Z6. The transmission of the Y8 has the same gear ratios, but stronger steel shift forks.
D16Z6: Has a better flowing head and has the P28 ecu, which is OBDI and more easily programmed/tuned.
If you ask me, the Y8 is a much better platform to start with. It can also be easily converted to OBDI, the main advantage of the Z6. Also, FYI if you want to bitch about the bottom end of a D16, the stock sleeves of a D series are just as strong, if not stronger, than a B Series and they also come with STOCK block girdles instead of just main bearing caps like most B Series. With just an aftermarket piston/rod upgrade the D Series bottom end will have way more potential than a STOCK B series bottom end.
