A buddy of mine did one like 3 years ago. He drives to Orlando to Jacksonville occasionlly. Its his daily driver at times. No problem at all. Hydro tranny and all.
As far as handling goes, it isn't that bad.
Going fast and being realible and cheap are not possible without picking the two you want.

stick with a good b-series motor... b16a or b18c1
even though the h22 motor is cheaper... the parts to fabricate this setup will cost more
its better to turbo a b-series motor anyways...
