Default rebuilding a b18a1

I'm working on rebuilding a b81a1 just like the subject says. I've got 2 blocks (one shot to hell, look at my gallery to see the damaged motor) and one is good and the other isn't. I'm looking to peice this thing together and get it running soon, but both cranks are shot.

Is $250 for a new crank, rod bearing and main bearings a reasonable price? ALSO, how much wiser would it be to go with a type r oil pump and water pump over the stock version (b18a1)?

I'd just like to thank anyone with informative information. I'm relitively new to actually building/working on my own stuff and am trying to learn as much as I can.

As long as the bearings are honda then you are set. As far as the oil pump, yes. ITR, go for it. Nice to hear logical questions instead of "What kind of engine should I put in my crx and how much will it cost"

I'd get the itr oil pump. After 96 all ls/crv/b16a/gsr/itr oil pumps are the same part number so it definitely would not hurt to get one. A vtec water pump will not work with an ls timing belt. You may be able to use a vtec water pump and a gsr timing belt but I don't think so.

Alright, I've found out that a ITR oil pump is good and that's probably what I'll end up getting. I've also learned that the water pump should just stay LS. With the water pump, B1 ls water pump be better, displace more water, than a A1 ls water pump?

And I still haven't heard anything about if 250 for a new crank, rod bearings, and main bearings is a decent price or not. I'd like to go new just so I can be sure it's good, but I don't want to be chopping off my head on this one.

Thanks everyone so far for all the information.

I try to pick up ls cranks for less than $100, usually $80 or so. So for $250 you are getting bearings. If the bearings are aftermarket then $250 is high. If the bearings are oem then the price is right but in order to correctly order the oem bearings you need to reference the block, crank, and rods for colors and then plastigauge to chek to see if they are in spec.

KJ,

Would you suggest getting aftermarket bearings? I just got done from visiting the shop where I'm getting the head looked at and he said he should be able to get a rod kit for about $200 plus some extra, for him getting it. I'm ganna be ripping everything apart and put everything back together, but I'm ganna have him check everything and make sure things are good. BTW, the machine shop that I'm going to is Yow's Automotive Machining here in Bradenton. I don't know if you've heard of it before or not... just to give you a reference where I'm getting my work done.

I've got two short blocks also... one is shot (see my gallery for the pictures of that one) and the other has had a spun bearing. So I'm pretty sure all of the rods I have are no good. and outta 8 rods and pistons I should have at least one set that is useable.

Once again, thanks everyone for all your help. I'm wanting to drive my baby as soon as possible for as little as possible while still being done correctly (does something there just not add up right?).

Joel
