Default Honda doesn't go into park, reverse or Neutral, need help fast!!!

say the topic states, I have problem I thought was a easy fix, but seems to be more invloved.

I just got a nice clean 88 Honda Accord LXi 2.0 FI Automatic. $250 113,000

The car shifts fine through all the drive gears. I cannot get the car out of drive, I pull out the console, and the shift cable is conected to the selector. I looked under the car and the cable is in the trans.

The lights in the dash indicate I am getting into park, and reverse, but will not pull back past D4 on the selector, kinda like its held up.

Does anyone know what could be wrong here.

broken shift cable? the gauge only shows what position the selector is in . meaning if you put the selector in reverse there is a switch on the selector turning on the r light on the dash but the cable going out to the transmision which is attached to the selector is what is putting the trans in reverse.

I could check this by pulling back the boot on the trans and have someone shift it inside the car, this would show no movement? is this the correct method to check.

The cable is held in place by a plate with a single bolt. Once I removed the bolt, and the case, I could see the cable, internally I could see a nut for maybe adjustment, I had a friend moved the selector, and got plenty of movement, I think and I could here it chnaging the gears, making a click for each gear, but after I put it back together, its still not working WTF?

Scott, check your PMs.

Magic said they would check it for free, but I doubt that one..
