Rod bearings, help please
I just put new rod bearings in my motor, and when i got to turn it over by the crank pully its pretty hard, would the bearings be the reason for that? or could it be something else? i was thinkin that the bearing just have to wear themselves in, is that true? -Ben

What did you use to lubricate the rod bolts? Also, are you sure you used the correct torque specs? Not to mention, the correct size bearings, and wether or not you plastigauged them, to make sure.
Once, I used engine assembly grease, instead of oil to lubricate the rod bolts, and using the correct torque specs, it somehow over tightened, and in turn damaged some of the bearings, so I had to replace some of them, again. The crank should spin freely with your hand, when installed in the block by itself.

if you are turning it over with the head back on or already on and your spark plugs in, then yes it is a bitch to turn over, take them out and then try.
also if i am remembering correctly, you should lube each bearing after you put in it it's place, then bolt the cap on.
did you also check to make sure that the rod bearing didn't spin when you rotated to put the other two in?

If it takes more than 6ft-lbs to break it loose then you may want to recheck your clearances (this is with the head off or at least no spark p-lugs in). Did you use assembly lube on the bearings and oil or wd-40 on the cylinder walls?
