motor mount question

Default motor mount question

i just had the drivers side motor mount ripped out of the block. it looked somebody already heli-coiled the once. what i would like to know is it going to be hard to tap the hole for a new bolt? any suggestions on getting this fixed would be great. by the way is a d16z6 in a 1994 hatchback. i would like to fix this my self so anybody would like to help let me know. thanks chris

The best way to fix it would be to tap in a 3/4" or 7/8" bolt, cut it off flush and then drill and tap a 10x1.25 mm hole for the mount. but you'd need a good drill press and a steady hand.
Or
Remove the old helicoil setup and tap it for a larger size standard bolt helicoil. If the bolt is too big for the cast iron mount drill that out. Surprisingly a cement bit works pretty good for drilling cast iron.

Well the way with the 3/4" inch bolt retapped would need to be done by a machine shop the other way I've done before myslef but I'd have to see what it looks like. Good ol' Keith might be able to help you out here since something similar happened to his old GSR block.
