probably just how the cams sound when they hit vtec. Different cam profiles sound different when they hit vtec.

Im going to assume your throwing no codes, try new plugs and wires, the basic tuneup for your ignition system. If that doesn't work, perhaps the lope on the cams are funky? Maybe the cams are overlaping and causing the noise? There could also be an issue with the ecu, part throttle map might not like the high lift/duration of your cams? It might just be too lean for the cams your running.
