My girlfriend has a 2002 honda accord lx, and she bought it brand new last year. About 2 days ago, it started making this grinding noise when she drives. It comes on every now and then, and i have no clue what it is. It almost sounds like a hanging metal piece scraping the road. (checked underneath the car nothing hanging) Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanx in advance.

 

might be the chirper on the brake pads.

it's auto... i'm not sure if it's the brakes.. becuase the sound comes up when she acclerates sometimes. The sound is more towards the center.

 

could you be more specific on what it sounds like (metal on metal, metal on plastic et....)???? where is it coming from???? is it only during accleration??? does it sound faster when u drive faster??? does it do it during braking??? is it louder during cornering??? you get the point just try to be specific.......

 

it's more of a metal on metal grinding. it comes on every now and then with just normal driving, but i think the grinding noise is louder when acclerating. sound comes up for a couple of seconds then disappears, then comes again a few minutes later. i didn't hear it while turning or braking.

 

take it to a honda dealership and have them check it.

 

How many miles? Sounds like possibly brakes
