Default crank question

I got a gsr block that originally had a spun bearing. I went ahead and found a type r crank in the area in mint condition. Today I was told that I cant use the Type R Crank in a gsr block because of the way the bearings seat. Is there anyone that can help clarify this?

You can use a type-r crank...I believe its identical except that the type-r crank is lighter...but Im not 100% sure..but I know you can use it.

I know that I can use it, the type r crank has better balancing but the thing is the bearings. Supposedly if i try to use it I am going to have a problem seating the bearings.

WTF??? Dude just use the crank with the bearings you have and then check the clearances with plastigage as you would any other engine you rebuild...

You can use any B-series Crank in any B-series block, you just need to adjust the rod and piston to suit the change in stroke...

i know the main bearings will be the same but there is a difference in the way type r rod bearings are matched up. i dont know if u have to use type r rods or gsr rods either.

damn hybrids!

It works. We've used type r cranks in Ls blocks before. Just plastiguage the bearings like Zee said and switch them out as needed.

Match the numbers and letters like normal, order bearings and then plastigauge from there. Or if you have trouble buy a single complete green main and rod bearing and plastigauge using them to determine what you need.
