Default opinions needed

first off, i want completely, brutally honest opinions on this.

ok. here's the deal:

i'm considering going ls/vtec. i'm looking at a block right now which has darton sleeves, solid deck, etc. however, it's just a bare block. so in order to complete my setup, i'd need a crank, oil pan & pick up, new bearings, seals, rods, and pistons. as it stands, the bore is 83 mm, but that would require ungodly expensive custom pistons, so i'd take the bore out to 84 or 84.5 mm and have more "off the shelf" pistons. now, i'd like to run endyn rollerwaves at around 12.5:1 cr, and eagle rods, with my b16 head w/ toda spec a's and portflow inner + itr outer springs w/ portflow titanium retainers. looking for 9k rev limit. also some 310 cc injectors. and of course hondata.

any thoughts? i would assume that for that large bore, with high comp and high revs, that it will need to be sleeved as it is, although i could be wrong on this one? about how much can i expect to spend on parts (minus the actual block)? any suggestions on parts to use, etc? and no bench racers please, i would rather get the voice of experience on this one. thanks.

At 83mm it has already been resleeved. CP pistons makes an 83mm off the shelf piston I believe but I'd just take it out to 84 or 84.5mm. LS cranks are not too expensive and you can use the oil pan and pickup off of your b16a motor along with the rear seal plate. Sounds like a nice block but why is the seller selling? Sleeved blocks have their own set of unique problems and make sure you aren't buying someones elses headache.

yes, the block is already sleeved... i'm not sure why the guy is selling, but it's a pretty high price for just a bare block. don't think i'm going to go with that one... now in the market for an ls shortblock... then send it off to golden eagle or import builders to have it sleeved, been sitting here doing the math, and i can have a complete block, oil pan and all, sleeved for what this guy is asking for his bare block... anyone dealt with import builders before? their price for sleeving is the cheapest ive found... thanks

12.5:1 is a little high for a daily driver. I wouldn't go with higher than 12:1 on my daily car and even then I'd be a little nervous on those really hot days, if it is a weekend or occasional car I say go with 12.5:1.

yes i know... i figured secret services could handle that, but if not, i guess 12:1 would be ok too...
