Default 88 hb dx

well im currently in the process of possibly purchasing a 88' hb dx and was wandering about the transmission? im planning on keeping the stock motor for about 3 or 4 months to save the money for a b16 swap... now i read in a post that someone was selling a 91' hb that was a 4 speed and was wandering if all 88 thru 91 hs's came w/ 4 speed or did they come in 5 speed also.? also about the b16 swap if there are any goooood sourcs to buy them id like to know because ive been messed w/ alot of motors in the past (my stupidity really) if you have any suggestions on a reliable one and a place to put it in for a decent price let me know.... thanks

There are three levels of hatches

-STD, came dpfi, 70hp or so and a 4spd tranny. These were available 88-91

-dx, dpfi motor, 90hp or so and a 5spd tranny, 88-91

-Si, mpfi motor, 106hp and a 5spd tranny, 89-91

From a swapping stanpoint the si is the easier to do and also comes with a much nicer interior, The dx is a similar swap to the si but the wiring takes a good bit of time and is pretty intimidating if you've never done it. The STD has the same wiring issues as the dx but also has hubs that are incompatible with the bigger spline axles used in b-series swaps and all other d-series except for crx hf's. They would need to be changed out with dx or si ones.
