Post Headgasket Info

Hey, Im just looking for a little guidance on this subject: the headgasket. Can anyone please tell me how they work, symptoms that the gasket may be on the verge of blowing, how is the replacement, and where are some good/decent priced place to have it done.

Im going to be doing some maintance on my accord and the HG came to mind, but I drew a blank. Any information would be greatly appreciated

check the compression with a gauge, that should tell you if its leaking aside from the obvious leaks and such, if you want more info do a leakdown test....

a blown headgasket will very rarely create an oil leak. most symptons are white smoke from exhaust, overheating, and coolant overflowing from the reservior

Pull your dipstick and look at it. Does it look like a milkshake?(no don't drink it) Chances are if the head gasket has blown, the head needs resurfaced. Worst part of doing a head job is putting evrything back toghter only to realize, damn head was warped. Overheating, white smoke and dissapearing coolant are all signs of a bad head gasket. One from Honda costs from $60 for just the gasket to $150 for the gasket set(my price)
