TR MPG Challenge
I am going to try and make a brief appearance in the Top 20 in a few weeks with my first all highway, no towing trip.
14/18 highway/16 combined are the target numbers for my truck.
I get almost 16mpg with an average tank consisting of 70% city driving and 30% highway driving(towing ~ 4,300 lbs).

I bought a pair of Yamaha C3 scooters... should be good for 115 mpg. EPA doesn't test bikes, so I guess I can't include my results here... though I'm not sure I'd be able to baby a scooter that only has a top speed of 40 mph enough to get the 128 mpg I'd have to get to even break the top 20!
Charles, you should be able to hit at least 20-22 mpg with your truck if you keep the speed down and keep your foot out of it.

Some of the scooters are pretty cool, it'd be nice to at least reach 50mph though!

I'm joining in now.
Car is a 1999 VW new beetle, and has a tank of 14.5 gallons.
epa is 21 city 28 highway 25 mixed ( new) and 21/31 ( old )
Last full tank was 235 miles. which is 16.2 mpg.
Currently i have used 3.625 gallons of fuel, and have driven 139 miles.
This comes out to 38.34 mpg.
With the current tank i have improved over 10mpg then the epa has given this car.
Car has a catback exhaust and runs on 35 psi filled tires. Shifts are at 2.5 and 3k never more. I'm pretty proud of myself.
^ is with the new standard, old standard would be a 7.34 mpg increase.
edit: btw car has 88k on it. Most of this has been in the city.

Is your 3.625 gallons based on an actual fill-up or just an estimate based on reading 3/4 on your 14.5 gallon fuel tank? We can't rely on your fuel gauge, we need an actual fill-up.
I've seen 150 miles on the first 1/4 tank in my Yaris. 1/4 of my 11.1 gallon tank is 2.775 gallons. This would equate to 54 mpg! But, it's not accurate. The only way to get a reasonably accurate mpg assessment is from fill-up to fill-up.
Your 235 mile fill-up was also probably considerably better than 16.2 mpg. Unless, of course you ran it completely out of fuel before you filled up.
Accuracy matters. How many miles did you actually drive? How many gallons of fuel did you ACTUALLY use?

. 1st time out with the car. And i see where the gauge can be faulty. i will keep on going with this one, and will post up after i'm dry. i'm shooting for 350+ for the tank.
I wouldn't say your gauge is "faulty", just typically inaccurate. It's very common for the first half tank (by the gauge) to be a gallon or two more than the second half. A good part of that is that most of us don't run are cars below 1/8 of a tank.
The way you're driving it, you should be well over 30 mpg. Rock on!

Hey, nobody ever said hypermiling was easy!
With an EPA highway of 28, you should be able to hit 34 in mixed driving. Looks like it might take a little more than just short-shifting to get there, though. Read
the tips and see if you can implement more of them.
