Oh, hell... the Spit hasn't had a working speedo/odo since I bought it! They's supposed to be good for over 40 mpg depending on running condition and how/where you drive them, but I'd expect more like 25-30 with the 1500.

The new 2.0 Duratec that's going in it is good for over 30 mpg in a Focus... with the gearing I have in the Spit, I expect I'll be able to get well over 40 with it on the highway. Who knows when it will be finished, though.

Is your Civic a VX? The new highway EPA on a '93 Civic VX is either 45 or 49. (with no clear indication of what the difference is between the two specs... gotta love unclear data) I'd give you the benefit of the doubt and call it 45... which means you're close, but still below EPA. Still not bad, though!

You should be able to see 50 mpg easily with that car, just takes a little dedication to the cause.
my civic is a cx which comes with a 1.5, but i have a ex motor which is a 1.6 the difference is the vx came without ac it was the most economic of all civics.. i have the 1.6 but no ac, no ps, and a vx crank pulley with the ac rib delete.. next time i take a trip(soon) ill record all my exact data and post it.. and about the 10gallons.. it was i think a bit more like 10.2 or .3, i didnt know it made that big of a difference so im going to data log everything next trip..

1996 Honda Civic EX 5 speed
135,000
gallons: 11.9 full, 7.93 used for numbers.
miles: 215
mpg: 27.11 more city driving
EPA: 26/33
% improved: not much lol, foot becomes lead at times. Sometimes I just like hearing my car revved out till redline before I shift. I was doing great at half tank probally 35mpg or so and then I was away from my car for a month so when i came home it needed a good ole fashion raping to be reunited. Now that i'm back and its been a bit I expect to see my mpg go up quite a bit, i'll post back on the improvement. My old automatic Civic was funny no matter how it was driven it was always 25mpg whether i was taking it easy or putting the pedal down everywhere. Didnt make much sense...

I think this would be a fun thing to try out except that my daily commute has me at a traffic light every half mile and if you miss one you miss them all. Work puts me about 5 miles from home, then lunch about another mile or 2... I will be heading out to lakeland later this week and will have to try.

i use to drive from tampa to clearwater everyday for school last year in my last 91 240sx hatch with around 140,000. i would go through a full tank in 4-5 days so i did the test and drove shifting around 2.5-3k rshared_pm and it would vary from 28mpg-31mpg depending on how heavy my foot was that week. cool thread

That's pretty impressive MPG for those kinds of speeds. Good thing it doesn't beat your prior record... I'll be damned if I remember where I put the spreadsheet for this little contest.
