Default Electric battery powered riding mower !!!

I've had this since last summer when I built it.
Its a 1986 snapper rear engine mower that my dad gave me.
It needed a new carb, and the bottom shaft seal was leaking oil all over the drive system which has a clutch. Of course, with a clutch covered oil does work too well.

The rest of the story is pretty much in the article at the bottom.

Still mowing with it. Had the wife do a quick video the other day. Notice "speed wobble" on my 5th wheel, haha. I didn't even know it did that.

It mows VERY nice. The motor actully spins a couple 100 rpms faster than the briggs did.

If I'm in grass, going uphill, turning, with the blade enguaged, then it will bog a bit, but more times than that the motor over comes the clutch when I put it in a bind. I actully took 2 batteries off the back ( used to run 4 ). I have more than enough battery life still, but it eased the stress on the clutch.

I really just need to install a washer to move the flywheel that much tighter against the clutch, and to replace the clutch spring, since its 23 years old

But, I've been mowing with it since last Sept. Mowed again today ( well, this morning for me, yesturday for everyone else ).

If you want details, there is a link at the top of the page in the first post.

Truth is. I simply hate carbs. Nothing I've ever owned that had a carb ran properly, and most the time, didn't run at all ( weed eater, leaf blower, edger, push mower, snapper ALL DO NOT ( or did not ) RUN B/C THEY HAVE CARB ISSUES ). And that's why my jeep has a ford V8. Ford had a good EFI back in 1989. It took GM until 1994 ( LT1 ) to build a REAL fuel injection system ( TPI and TBI doesn't count ). I wanted an LSx, but $$$$. They made EVERYTHING to swap a SBC into a jeep TJ, and NO THING to swap a SBF into one, but I'd rather custom fab everything to swap the motor than to have a carb'd SBC.

We fight about it at work all night.... Stupid carbs...

Found my winter project in cassville,mo I think. If it has the clutch on it still, a food plant I service has a pile of pallet trucks and electric forklifts they are parting out to snag the motor and controller out of.

Cool man, keep us updated.

And.... Yea... I'm mowing with it every 5-8 days or so, haha. I have actully had to change the batterys in the middle of mowing once now though. Since the grass has just out of control since June. If I know I'm not going to get a chance to mow for an extended amount of time, I reallu scalp the yard, and that's when it normally has to have the battery changed. If I mow with the deck up, its fine on the first set. I gave my push mower away a few weeks ago and bought a 120V weedeater.

Nahhh, the snapper is 24V DC. Two deep cycle RV batterys.
The 120V is my weedeater, its just a normal ole pull in the wall deal from sears, but the main difference between it and my other weedeaters is that the 120V one actully runs when I pull the trigger.
