I see all kinds of flex fuel vehicles but still havent seen a station that sells it.. Whats the deal? Are we not getting it or is it just going to take 20 years to move down here?

What we need is Florida's Sugar industry to get off it's arse and figure out that sugar is a lot more efficent to make ethanol from then corn. and help spur our states economy.

Instead we have acres of acres of low "dairy farms" most are just people keeping cattle to offset their taxes.

 

The state is buying out most of the largest sugar producer's property and they're shutting down over the next few years. Sugar production is going to go way down.

 

so are they only selling it where they can produce it? Id love to run one of those conversion kits. Its not going to save me any money but im all for throwing a few bucks down to keep the money in the country

 

I've burned over 300 gallons of E85 in the Sentra. and I do experience a small drop in mileage but it's usually 3MPG on my typical 30 MPG. so actually it saves me the smallest amount of money vs regular. where I REALLY see a difference is my engine knocks on less then 91 octane (like a V-spec sentras) and has a sensitive knock sensor.

If I "dose" 9 gallons of E10 87 octane with 3 gallons of E85 I get a 91.5 octane mix of E29 and it returns me close to 30mpg which saves me $33 cents a gallon over running Straight E10 93 octane. but on the highway I just fill up with Straight E85 since it's running closed loop the whole time and keeps the AFR's in check.

so if you monitor the AFR ratios you can actually save money, since you can lean up since most stock cars run rich.

 

well yeah, running e85 really doesnt cost you that much when its tuned correctly. (cost as in fuel, not price). To me its more about not using oil rather than saving a few bucks.

My friend Aaron said they were giving something on the news about e85 the other day. As of now the only e85 pumps are way south FL, way North FL, and at the Orlando Turnpike.

I have a e85 relavant thread over in the mitsu tech section titled " Its coming"
I was reading different articles about a pipeline running from Orlando to Tampa almost finished with construction as we speak. Id like to assume we should be getting our first e85 pumps our way sometime before the summer of next year.

Getting a handful of pumps between Hillsborough and Pinnelas county would be great.
I plan to convert to e85 full time, and gain the benefits of the high octane and cooler fuel burn for tuning purposes. Im sure you could get back some of your lost mpg by setting the tune much leaner and getting more mechanical efficency out of the motor with increased timing since the fuel is so knock resistent... I am stoked about its arrival, I hope it gets here soon!

 

I plan to convert to it also once its more available if I cant go electric first. How much are those conversion kits anyways? My car is pretty much stock but I would retune it anyways to gain some benefits

 

Find your stock cars Injector size, add 30% to that and replace with those injectors. the car will not know a single difference. you might want a beefier fuel pump but just making the injector change should be all you need.
