Decisions, decisions, decisions...
Do I go with the 222/222 .566/.566 at 114 or do I go with 224/224 .561/.561 at 114?
I can do the second cam for about $70 cheaper, because I can get it with the Thunder GP right now.
Like I talked to Al yesterday and told him... my car is a daily driver, and I drive it everywhere, lots of miles. I don't want any hot start issues. I don't want any problems. I don't care how lumpy it sounds. I want reliability, and I want power. If it's a little lumpy, so be it.
I still need to call Branden and talk to him, too. But I want your guys' opinion, in the mean time.
I'll be ordering my LT headers, too, in the next week or so.

Well shit if you dont car how lumpy it is the 224 is a very hard to beat all around cam. And if there is a GP going on...
Actually...check out this graph. It has all the comp XE and XE-R lobes available. I would say stay at or less than 224 for what your looking for. The smaller you go the better the idle, but the old ways of the SBC as far as losing low end TQ in trade for high rpm HP really doesnt apply untill you start getting into the really big cams. So get the biggest one that will suffice for your desired idle. Id say between a 220 through a 224 single pattern 114 LSA with 4 degrees advance ground in. Single patterns seem to require less tuning. A 224/224 is a single pattern VS a 220/224 traditional split pattern or something like a 230/224 reverse split.

What Al said. To add to it remember that once it is tuned the computer will handle any drivability problems Since 224/224 114LSA is pretty small relatively speaking for an LS1.

i love my 230/230 comp grind, but it is on the ragged edge for a reg street car. i say 221-224 area is perfect and if you can get that TR 224 grind, GO FOR IT. esp if it is on a GP now. with tuning the damn thing will be smooth like stock. i have NO hot start problems with my big cam, a smaller unit will have nothing to worry about. also, are you a MN6 car or A4? if you have a clutch, absolutely nothing to worry about!

Ok, well then I'm going to get in on this GP... under $600 for Cam, Springs, and Pushrods; $700 if I get the retainers, too. But talking to a few people, they don't think the titanium retainers are going to be neccesary.
That's the 224 .561 - 114 cam.

Man you could have just asked me.. I've been through a lot of cams.. The real question is are you planning on getting gears.. If not I would get the 224 cam and tuning.. That cam rides out. If you are looking for power and smooth I would go with a smaller cam off the XE-R lobes.. My cam idles fine, but you will need tuning. Plus, I want to keep you below me..
If you are considering a SC'd ride.. I would go TR220...
