2.5 tech 4 tuning???
I recently got a 92 S-10 single cab short bed with a tech 4 and a 5-speed. It has real low milage. I would like to get maybe another 25-50 hp out of it so i could have some fun drifting it. I don't care about 1/4 mile just having enough power to break cheap tire loose. I would like to do it cheap. Was this motor ever used in a performance (ha-ha) GM car, possibly to get better parts from a junk yard. Any suggestions would be nice. Thanks.

Yes, the Tech 4 is a 2.5L 4 banger that was used in damn near every GM car of the 80's to mid 90's including Camaros. Juice will not give me the smooth, controllable, always available power I need for drifting. Header and exhaust I know will be first. Looking at the stock cast piece I am sure the upgrade will be good for 10-12hp but that won't be enough. I believe it is throttle body injected and has an older carbarator style air intake/filter. Is there a better air intake avalible for this set up like Hondas etc? Did this engine ever come as multi-point injection? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the GM performance parts catalog. They may have some stuff now because GM was going to go after the "Import Tunner" marketing segment. One word of advice though, "drifting" is lame.

an exhauast wont add 12 horsepower, an intake? well, you probably wont even notice the diffence, execpt in your wallet.
I dont think you will be happy with the sound of that car if you put an exhaust on it.
Maybe comp cams or GM has a cam for it, but i really doubt it.
I didnt wantto be the one to burst your bubble, but i dont think there is anything you can do to that motor, its a roach.
Do you want serious power from this car? or are you only looking to put $300 into it? $300 wont get you 50 HP, i dont care what anyone tells you.
S10's are great for doing small block swaps. you can get a good running 350 for around 1500- 2500 and its a drop in replacement!
Do some researcxh on small block swaps in S10s.
I think thats your best way to go about it.

I have looked into the V8 swaps and they aren't that expensive. If the truck looked nice and the current motor had high milage I would consider it but its a daily beater and the motor is hardly broken in with only 38K on it. Also my preferance is 4 bangers. I realize that adding 50 hp may only bring me up to the power level of the stock 2.8L V6 but that is all I need and its cheaper (maybe) and easier than swapping motors. Thanks.
Also, drifting may be "lame" but it still requires more skill than drag racing!!!

Actualy road racing at Sebring takes skill, "Drifting" is doing donuts in an empty parking lot and requires nothing. You have a real nice day now.
