Default what mods are common for new SS's?

I was wondering what it would take to put a new SS into the low 12s or high 11s. No N20 if possible or any other forced induction. Can it happen?

Doesn't really take much at all, especially with a 6 speed. There are two guys on here that are in the 12s with nothing but a lid and exhaust I think. They would be URFUCT and DinoZ. Of course, some Nittos on the back help a lot too. With a auto, all you probably need is a higher stall and traction if it's 2000 or newer. I'm sure one of the guys will post anything I may have missed or stated incorrectly.

Well just wondering, why do you only run a 13.8? You have an LS1 right?

Oh nevermind. I guess that was before you had any mods right?

My car originally came with a 2.73 gear....good for gas mileage, bad for acceleration. This has since been remedied. Another reason is because 98 was the first year for the LS1, so it's not quite as strong as the 01/02s. And yes, that was before any mods.

Intake lid $99
Cat back Exhaust $299-500
Headers and Y pipe $500-1000
Cam & valvespring upgrade $$600-900 depending on labor
Tuning (not always req) $450
Slicks on some cheap rims $300
lightweight mods $free

Should get you high 11s at 114-118 mph depending on how much weight reduction you do.
For an auto add a stall converter and you will definately be in mid to high 11s

The thing to remember with any LS1 powered Fbody is that thiis is the exact same motor that goes into the C5 Vette. GM slaps a more restrictive exhaust and airbox on them to limit the HP output to under 320. The reason for this is that it is hard to sell a guy a car for 50+ grand when there is a car available with the same power for under 30K. the Direct flow lid, and a cat back put you right where you need to be. 4:10 gears in a M6 or a 3K stall converter in an a4 put you solidly in the 12s.

Yank, Precision Industries (Vigilanti) convertors are the most popular. 650-900 is the norm for the big boy convertors.

Gator speaks the truth. Yank, TCI and MidWest and Precision Industries(Vigilante) are the big boys and their prices range just as he said. I have a TCI that I picked up for $250. Keep your eyes peeled for people that are parting out or stepping up to a higher stall inorder to get one on the cheap.
