[h=2]NASCAR: New Chevy model to replace SS in 2018[/h] RACER staff

Chevrolet has confirmed that it will race with a new model in the NASCAR Monster Cup Series in 2018, since production of its SS model is set to end this year. The SS has served as Chevy's signature model in NASCAR's top division since 2013 (pictured above on its introduction).
"It was already known that the Chevrolet SS was going to be discontinued in 2017," Jim Campbell, Chevrolet's U.S. Vice President of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports, said in a statement. "That information was originally announced last summer. As you know, we don't talk about future projects. We'll make any announcement regarding our next Cup entry at the appropriate time."
Chevrolet adopted the SS for NASCAR's "Gen-6" stock car rules that were instituted to reinforce brand identity among its manufacturers. Previous Chevy models have included the Monte Carlo and Impala (pictured below in 2011), which remains in production.
