Default 97 Firechicken

this kid on campus just bought a 97 firebird for like 16k

has around 7k miles on it, super clean car, is the WS6 version.

now, does this car have an LT1, or LS1, and how fast do these generally run with just exhaust and k&n air filter...

i'm just curious, cause this kid really has no idea what he's talking about...as he said the car went mid 11's as it sat...with stock tires..etc.

it is a 6speed, and i thought they run mid to low 13's...just wondering what everyone thought of the 97's and what kind of reputation they have.

97 is a LT1. 1/4 mile tims may very between mid 13 to low 14s. NO WAY its an 11 sec. car.

christ, low 14's?

i'm going to ask if he wants to run me...as the car has shitty tires and i'll take my chances on getting smoked.

i really thought they were faster than high 13's...low 14's.

what makes the ls1's so much faster than the lt1's?

believe me, i know how fast the ls1's are, i've watched several at the track and seen low 13's, high 12's with nearly stock setups...and good tires.

The LS1 is a whole different animal. The LT1 is pretty much a run of the mill 350 with fuel infection (iron block, iron heads, standard head port shapes, 4" bore) The LS1 is an ALL aluminium motor (alum. heads, alum. block) The runners in the heads are reshaped completely and flow VERY well stock (you wont ses an aftermarket head for a LS1 because of it) ~3.9" bore, 6 bolt mains, coil on plug design so no distrubitor (LT1 has the optispark~ pretty much a distrubitor).

Theres a lot to seperate these 2 machines, but dont underestimate the LT1s, can can be drivin well.

will, you had an lt1 once, right?

what kinda numbers were you making stock...with mods...etc?

i'm putting a header on my car tomorrow, dyno wednesday, ask him to run friday.

we'll see...i'll probably get smoked...but it will be fun either way.
