Chevy questions!! Need some help!
Okay, '94 Caprice, Ex cop car. Still has original LT1 and auto. Looking into swapping in a LS/6speed.
Forgive me if I jump all over the page
1. LS6 heads and intake will bolt right up to a LS1 shortblock?
2. Will it be cheaper and more effective to just drop a 5.3 or 6.0 in it?
3. Has anyone reading this, done this swap or knows of someone who done it before?
4. If the LS1 gets dropped into it, will I have clearence issues with the power booster or master cylinder?
5. Can I use the stock K-member and LT1 motor mounts?
6. Can I use the stock Trans Am/Camaro LS motor mounts?
7. When using the T56 viper spec transmission, will I have to have a driveshaft made? Planned on replacing it with a Aluminum one and would like to kill 2 birds with one stone.
8. Can I use the F-Body trans cross member for the manuel?
9. Does the trans itself have a wiring setup I will have to run while putting in the engine/dash harness?
10. Last but not least, If all goes well and it comes threw, on the 150 shot will it put this car at 500RWHP?
The main plan of the car is a clean undercover cruiser. Still has spotlight, strobes, and push bar.
I have heard from diff ppl that the LS1 short block mounted with LS6 H/C/I combo will top 410hp. Only mod other than headers and a cai will be a 150 shot of the giggle gas and gears.
Thanks in advance for the help!

1. Yes
2. Possibly, it really varies
3. Same as any other LTx, LSx swap
4. No
5. K member yes, mounts no
6. Possibly on the block side with adapter brackets you'll have to search for them I'll bet they are available
7. Its going to come down to the placement of your mounts, I believe if you get a true viper upgraded trans the output spline count is different so you'll at least need the transmission yoke change.
8. No
9. The wiring for the T56 is part of the engine harness. You have the reverse light switch in there as well as the vss, cags, and reverse lockout that are wired to the pcm.
10. Probably

A cam would probably be a lot better choice instead of the LS6 heads if you have to go for one or the other. Use the LS6 manifold, sell the heads for an aftermarket cam.

You're the fucking man! Rep'd!
Okay, so will it be better in the longrun (better as cheaper) to use the LS1 complete engine, toss a cam and 1.7s on it, instead of the LS6 heads and intake?
With the stock LS1 and lets say a .560 .540 lift cam and 1.7s, will the valve springs need to be upgraded? Im gettin pretty good with yanking harness's and installing them so swapping wont be an issue. I have the feeling I will have to break out the welder and fab up a crossmember.
About the transmission, The whole powertrain is coming from a '98 Formula. Its a 6 speed, so I just ASSUMED its a viper spec t56.

This is all new to me also, Old school small block no, but the ls stuff is new to me. For what i'm doing, the 5.3 is cheap and strong, the 6.0 is not so cheap but strong. I know the stock 5.3/6.0 block and crank will handle 1000hp. With boost i can use the stock heads and make 800hp or so with out much work. A cam is a must and new valve springs are always a good idea. The trans crossmember will have to be fabed and clutch pedals might be fun. They make engine mount adpt plates for the ls/lt1 stuff cheap.

I sugest the 5.3 due to the lack of cost to aquire one. The LS1's are treated like there made of gold on the resale market. Altho you said the swaps comming out of a 98 formula, so I assume your going with a LS1. The T56 in that car is not a viper spec trans jus a regular run of the mill T56 and factory ones handle about 450lb/ft (factory rating as a stock LS1 can trash one) whats working against you is using a heavy car but then again Gto's are as well and they make due. Just dont abuse the trans with powershifts and hard launching and you will be ok.

A lot of the time depending on what you end up getting, by the time you piece together a complete setup, especially if you are wanting a T56, you'll end up spending more for a 5.3/6.0 after getting everything.
As far as the T56 goes the factory rating is usually referred to as underrated, and im not quite sure how you figure a stock LS1 is capable of breaking one, capable of damaging one with an idiot driving sure, however actual strength, no. However you are right him using a heavy caprice wont help things.
StealthMode, I'd likely go with a set of valve springs, and chances are you'll probably end up with a cam with more lift than that, typically even the mild LS1 cams end up in the 560's for lift, heck mine is 224/230@050 and .581/.589, the stock rocker arms are 1.7 ratio, so dont bother planning to swap those, and with a lot of the cams around going to a higher ratio isnt recommended due to the ramp rates.
texas-speed has PAC singles for under $200, couple them with something mild like a TSP or thunder cam in the 220-224 range, and im sure you wont be disappointed. The LS6 manifold would still be a good idea, I just would spend the heads money on an actual cam if its coming down to one or the other.
You shouldnt have to fab up a crossmember, just figure on building some brackets to bolt to your existing crossmember and to the LS1's engine mounts.

Well the Formula is completly trashed and he told me $1500 and pick it up. Yes its a stock LS1 and T56.
The weight of the car was gonna be made up with a set of gears and the spray. I used to hang out with the F-Body inc guys and heard stories of the Viper Spec handling well over 500ft/lbs of TQ. As to whether its a true Viper Spec, I have no idea.

Viper has the steel 3/4 fork, a different mainshaft, and I believe a different input also ? Probably a few other differences and they arent cheap.
id hoenstly just build the lt1. Its going to cost a lot just for the motor set for an LSx. If you can find one for a steal then maybe. But for the couple of grand you will spend just to get it, you can just get some cams some nice ported lt1 heads and intake
