Default 2.5" Pipe vs. 3" Pipe

ok i have an 89' suburban 350 tbi and i want 3" pipes on it for that mellowed out sound and im gonna put dynomax super turbo's . but my mechanic told me that i should'nt go any bigger than 2.5"... i know its my car but i really value his opinion

you'll lose torque and maybe low end hp with the 3in pipes. just like headers or intake that are to big for a setup.

also not going to be any faster possibly run a little lean my 2 cents run a larger cat back sytem with the muffler you like for sound. will not gain anything on a tbi thats noticable 4 the money except noise

U wanna dual it out bro or just put a single out the back?

Also do u got any headers on that thing ?

I would listen to ur mech ,my boys have all told me the same thing .That's why im gonna put in a dual system on mine in 2.5 inch piping .

the stock exhaust is 2.5 in off the manifold to y-pipe and single 3in. if u did true duals i would run 2.5 all the way.
