'98-02 LS1 6 Speed...is the T56 strong enough?
i think he thinks the heat from the headers boils the hydraulic fluid in the clutch line.

I think he means the likelyness of the headers heating up the clutch slave cylinder? I've never heard much complaint about the t56 either. I know it has some weak points when you really start to get crazy, but once you upgrade those with viper or aftermarket its a pretty damn bullet proof tranny from my understanding.

Everyone I have spoken to about the Camaro says the manual trans is excellent. I believe its a Borg Warner(not positive) and they are known for their durability. I used to have a Borg Warner Super T 10 "Rock crusher" which just sounds badass-I couldnt hurt it.

I have an 02 with a t56. its got about 50k on it and I've power shifted it since 200miles (first time at the track) and its still feels like a new tranny. its all in how you drive it. if you don't know what your doing and beat the synchronizers with a clutched that isn't disengaged. you will wear them out and or break shift forks.
if people learned how to shift gears this wouldn't happen.
as for the mushy peddle, just replace the mastercyclender and do the drill out mod and your good. but I didn't do that until I had to replace the master. hell I even still have the stock clutch and its hanging in there. but then I don't run DR's and don't slip the clutch on lunches.
all this shit I learned by racing with t5's back in that day. now that was a weak ass tranny. the t56 is bullet proof compared.

The T56 is a strong tranny on its own. The problem is the clutch/ hydrolics. The "mushy" pedal feel is from the clutch system. Its either the stock clutch getting worn (they are self adjusting and can only adjust so far) or the hydrolic system (that needs to be upgraded to a 01-02 setup). You also have to do the "drill mod" for the master to keep up. That was a stupid idea on GMs part. Ive put up to 700 RWTQ on a stock tranny spraying a 200 shot at 3000 RPMs and my latest was ~600 RWTQ with my turbo setup (but the tranny was far from stock). Also, you NEED to wrap the hydrolic line from the master to the slave with heat wrap as it travel right over the header/ exhaust.
The stock tranny does have a weak point or 2. One is the 3-4 shift fork is aluminum which will bend if shifted hard causing the tranny to pop out of 3rd gear. The fix is to replace the aluminum fork with a steel one. The next is that the earlier T56s used paper blockers (I think thats the name) and they wear fast and arent compatiable with synthetic fluid.
If you can find a good clutch and good hydrolics, the T56 is a damn nice setup.
