Help - stumbling on acceleration
Ok guys help me out. We usually work on Fords at our shop but have been expanding to every make and model. Anyway I have a 95 camaro at the shop with a 5.7L in it that stumbles bad under acceleration.
Full pressure stays solid at 45 psi when this happens so its not the fuel pump. I have heard alot of people talking about opti spark goes bad on these. True?
Tip of advice when I took the intake tube off that tube that runs down in front of the radiator was full of water and I don't know where it came from. The customer swears to me up and down that he never went through a puddle.
I am in the dark on this one. For whatever reason my scan tool wont hook up to this vehicle. Help me please. Also plugs and wires look good.

Yes, the Optisparks like to go bad, ESPECIALLY when you get them wet! The fact that there was a puddle in the intake makes me even more suspicious. some food for thought.

may not have been a puddle, but driving in the monsoons down here would definately pick up alot of water. Or car washes with under carrage washes might have done it.

the 95 uses an obd1 computer with an obd2 port
the donkey dick looking thing on the bottom of the intake elbow is what you're talking about correct?
but stumble under acceleration, how does it preform under WOT? is the car smell like it's running rich at all? is there any tears in the rubber intake elbow between the maf and throttle body?

But really, good luck fixing it. I don't know a whole lot besides what I said, and that water would make me very wary of the customer decieving you. Its been known to happen. Frequently.

the customer would have no reason to decieve them like that, it isnt warranty work. the customer is coming out of pocket full price.
its a 95, take the vacuum line from the dist. to the intake and blow some pressurized air through it and see if that cleans it up at all. if not, check for vacuum leaks post MAF sensor. like alex said 95 was the crossover year, it has an OBD2 port, but is an OBD1 equipped car. if you can figure out what the new port assignments are you can use the paperclip trick.
also the "donkey dick" is to pass california emission/sound standards. dont ask me how it works, i dont know. all i know is that a Right Guard or Old Spice cap fit perfectly.
