Exclamation Hmmm...

Yes ive posted a lot about my camaro...

Well my friend has a rebuilt 305 and is selling to me for $200 his dad will swap engines for me for $100 I need to buy a new transmission for $150 that will fit the 305 unless my 2.8 V6 tranny will fit? Also need to get a distributer and an adapter for the eldebrock carburater im putting on there so it will move down to 2 barrel and not flood my engine. So the distributer and the adapter should be about $150 more. Also I just got a new exauhst for it but it was for my V6 so what he said he can do is put a flex pipe on for now untill I can get a new exauhst. Right now my V6 is toasted the rod knock is loader then hell and this is my only option left... Should I go for it or no?

Does it sound like it will work? Im fuel injected right now but he said switching to carburated is not a big deal? Also I dont pay anything for the engine or labor untill its running and driving. Just have to buy the adaptor, distributer, and the transmission.

Sorry im not to great with cars but I love my Camaro

Thanks,
Sam

2.8 tranny will not work... too weak... you will need to get a HEI distributor.... what are you talkin about an adaptor to take it down to a 2bbl? you can run a 4bbl on a 305 jus fine. honestly its not worth it imo, you will be spending more money on it then you think to get this too work. plus your puttin a 305 in now which if you do add performace goodies will never see more than 250-300crank hp and be reliable...

go all out and get a 350 so you wont have to go thru the swap again... theres alota junkyards here in fl especially pinellas area. you can get all the parts you need from there if you really wanna do this. ps you will also need a new radiator. motor mounts, tranny crossmember, driveshaft either lengthened or shortened depending on the tranny you use. trust me ive done a few of these myself.

never understood why people would swap engines when they could look around and find a car that has that engine in it from the factory.... it's an F-body not like you are trying to find jimmy hoffa or something

its do to not many 3rd gens having 350s..u can tell on a 3rd gen if it is a 350 if the 8th digit in the vin is a 8.

383s are nice..i like long rod 377 more though..there just better i think plus u can run bigger valve heads and not worry about sending a valve into the cylinder wall and a 377 will rev up faster and make more tq.

i say go for it...

as long as you have people willing to help you out and not leave you with a non running car, with a bunch of cash dumped into it.

as for the 305 thing.. the bottom end is just as strong as a 350. it just lacks a few cubes, so it will be down on power a bit, compared to the 350 with the same mods.. but they still love spray and all the parts you buy to make the 305 work will bolt to the 350... once its all sorted out and drivable, and you've learned a shit ton by building it up. the 350 or even a good 406 will slide right in.

also its hard as hell to find a 3rd gen with a 350 from the factory... most are 305s autos anyways... and non of the 350s came in manual cars, but you can swap a t56 into one pretty damn easily,(thats whats i did) so why deal with finding a 350 auto then having to swap the tranny anyways? just do both to the shell u already have and like.
