Help locating/identifying tranny
My dad is looking for a rebuilt or new tranny for his truck. It's a 95 Chevy 1500, had a 305, and it's a 5 speed. He tried to call Chevrolet, but they say it's a discontinued model, and the only "name" they have for it is GAKZ.
Does that sound like the correct name to be looking around and asking for?
Also, if anyone has any idea where he could find one, that would be much appreciated.
TIA

he could change it to auto..but any old tranny will match up seeing how its a 305..he could get a tranny out a older truck and it should just slap right in..the tranny bolt patterns are all the same so he gots alot of options to go with..

He wants to keep the 5 speed. He put a higher HP crate motor, headers, full exhaust, etc. in it and he thinks it's fast. <G>

that tranny is a T-5... it can only handle about 300hp... as long as he doesnt beat on it or it doesnt hook up on a hole shot he will be ok. and if he did do a auto conversion i would use the 4L60E, 4L80E, 700R4, or 200R4... TH350-400 and powerglide are not a good daily tranny due to lack of OD.

He only drives it on the street, so hole shots are not a possibility. =)
Thanks!
Thanks!
