Default New to LS-1's

Hey guys, I am going to be purchasing an LS-1 powered f-body with low milage and a few boltons (slp long tube header and cutout), and I am realvely good cars mechanically speaking (also own a dsm) and my questions are:
1.) how much can I expect to improve by using the hypertech computer programmer?
2.) what are some other relatively cheaps mods to do for good mid range gains?
3.) what kind of times can i expect to run?
4.) what are good inexpensive ways ot improve the overall handling of the car?
5.) what size and kind of n2o setup can i run safely?

Hey guys welcome! , I am going to be purchasing an LS-1 powered f-body congratulations! you will love your new F-body with low milage and a few boltons (slp long tube header and cutout) NO! do not go with SLP LTs you will hate everytime you go over a bump, and thats BEFORE you lower it , and I am realvely good cars mechanically speaking (also own a dsm) and my questions are:

1.) how much can I expect to improve by using the hypertech computer programmer? it all depends on the car, I would get a predator programer instead of the Hypertech, you can do alot more on the predator

2.) what are some other relatively cheaps mods to do for good mid range gains? The first mods you should do are as follows:
160 therm (you dont live up north, so you dont want your car to run 180+ hot in the hot florida sun)
Intake aka Lid, all lids do relatively the same thing. Choose the one you like best
Optional:
SLP fan switch, I have it and as soon as I get into the car I flip in on to high. My fans stay on all the time

3.) what kind of times can i expect to run?
14.0-12.5 depending on driver, track, and outside temp

4.) what are good inexpensive ways to improve the overall handling of the car?
Car handles like on rails from factory, so as far as I know there are no "cheap" ways to improve handling

5.) what size and kind of n2o setup can i run safely?
that all depends, I dont like N20 so I dont know much about it, join LS1Tech.com and read up on the LS1.

Also there is a wonderfull tampabay club that is very good to join for local assistance, Mafia Motorsports of Tampa Bay! Join that and introduce your self, if you have any problems with your new LS1 they are just a pm away.

1. Nothing. It will cause detionation problems. They are only good for gear changes/ speedo calibrations and fan settings. Thats all. Get a true dyno tune.

2. All the free mods are good. Also, a t-stat (but you need programming to make the fans turn on earlier). Lid, catback/ cutout, and tuning.

3. Someone already said it.

4. boxed or tubular lower control arms, different panhard rod, urithane busings and end links and better tires. The stock tires suck ass.

5. Playing with N2O on a stock motor is a ticking timebomb. I, personally, like a wet setup. It hits hard. Ive sprayed up to a 200 shot on a stock motor. Its all in how its setup and tuned. If you want to spray, all I can tell you is read A LOT and learn, learn, and learn!

Predator is better
2.) what are some other relatively cheaps mods to do for good mid range gains? Lid,exhaust,if its a 98-00 do the LS6 intake,TBporting,MAF porting
3.) what kind of times can i expect to run?
14.0-12.9

LCA,Subframes,PHB,swaybars,lowered

The SLP Long Tube headers are know for their clearance issues, the worst header to put on a car if your going to lower it. Not too bad if you keep the car stock, and yes listen to Country Boy, there is not 1 stock bolt left in his SS, he also changes setup like he changes underwear so if your looking to supercharge OR turbo the LS1 you couldnt find a better person to ask.
