Default L36 pressure release (hiss) after shut down?

lately I've noticed that when I shut the engine off, about 2 seconds after the belt stops spinning I hear what sounds like pressure being released... possibly back out of the intake as the sound comes from the drivers side of the car near the intake.

Is this normal? I didnt notice it till maybe 45k I'm at 51k now.

have you replaced your intake manifold gasket yet? all the 98-04 V6's in pontiacs have horrible problems with that. I see about 2 a week at work.

I'm sure its just the intake noise. Mine used to do it. Then I got a shortram and it got louder. It doesn't hiss anymore its more of a huff like an exhale.

EXACTLY! yeah "huff like an exhale" is like a perfect way to describe it. I'm glad at least two people are pointing to the intake. While I still don't know why it does it, its good to know its normal. Thanks.

i hear it alot on honda's with intakes..its weird, its like the cyl compresses the air then you turn the car off and cut spark but the momentum of the engine once it has stopped keeps rotating enough to crack the presurized cyl's intake valve and it blows the air back out the intake.

if the ac is on, it could be pressure releasing. does that have one of those high quality plastic intakes, those are bad about leaking coolant too.

Ahhhhthe crankshaft makes sense, I have the stock airbox with a K&N filter. I never use the AC... ever ever. Its does it consistantly every time the engine is shut off so im gonna go with the explanation above.
