Default Lt1

I own a 1994 cheverolet camaro with a 3.4 V6 in it. Ive been saving up for an LS1 to swap out with my current motor. My fathers friend who I also bought my camaro from has an LT1 that has 40,xxx miles on it and a brand new transmission. He is willing to sell both the motor and the transmission to me for $800. Even though I know its a great deal every one is telling me that an LT1 is crap and that I should just buy it and sell it for money towards an LS1. And what I was wanting to know was if I keep the LT1 will I be able to build it up to put out a good amount of horse power. Im going to go look at the motor and transmission tomorrow morning..

The LT1 isn't a horrible motor...as long as you don't count the fact that its one of the most ballbusting things to work on in the history of GM.

Yeah, it can be made pretty damn quick, and in some ways its better than the LS1 I hear. What I'd watch out for is..well..everything else.

I looked into a swap for my 95 3.4L, and found that theres a lot of other shit in it that sucks and needs to be swapped out to handle even the stock power levels of an LT1. Unless you're really sure you want to do this, I'd consider buying a V8.

I think if you are asking these questions it'd probably be in your best financial interest not to do any motor swap. Save yourself the trouble and buy the car already set up with an LT1 or LS1

hmmm...
First dont buy an LS1 to swap into your car. The tranny mounting points are different making it a difficult fit. I think the engine mounts are different as well. People have done it but requires fabrication. Also you'll have to find an LS1 4l60E or LS1 T56 because the engine to tranny bolt holes are in different locations. Also an LS1 style push clutch would be required with the set up among a few other items... it might be tricky finding the best way to get a straight shot of air for your intake as well.

For the LT1 Swap here is a link to a good parts list..
http://www.tacreationsusa.com/3_4_3_8_v6_to_lt1.htm

This will show you all major parts you need.

Good luck
