Default ls1 gas questions

since i'll more likely than not be moving in with the pops in a couple of months, not having bills is going to free up a dramatic amount of money in my budget, so naturally, in perfect car guy form, i'm going car shopping. currently lusting after an 02 ws6 i saw online today.

do ls1 powered vehicles generally come from the factory running on 87 or 93 octane? what kind of mileage are you guys seeing who are running around with tuned ecu's? and after browsing edmunds for a while, when the hell did v8's get so damn fuel efficient? christ, 19/29 mpg... i don't think my contour even gets that good of mileage...

yep...they get good gas milage. They only run on 93...however you could probably get by with some 89 in a pinch as long as you never went WOT.

I used to get between 15-21 depending on how much I was beating on it around town. On the highway...pshhhh...26+ is the norm. Some Zo6s have gotten nearly 30 mpg logged on the highway. The effiecency is due to many things. Piston design, the very good PCM, but mostly cylinder head design. The chamber is VERY efficient.

yep, i get great gas mileage in my Z even for as much as I beat on it. You will not be dissapointed in an ls1 and I am willing to bet once you get it gas mileage will be the last thing your worrying about.

well those were really the only questions i had about the motor... i mean any time i hear anyone talking about ls1's they always throw in how they want to find out who designed the motor so they can line all of them up and blow them... great power production, if you look at it sideways it'll make more power... reliability seems to be up there as well... i just want to find a nice stockish SSto putter around in for a while.

lets not forget the big reason they get amazing milage on the highway is the 6th gear overdrive.

My Z-28 gets over 30MPG on the highway with the cruise set at 70-75. It's a M6 with some breathing mods. FWIW
