Default Might give the Dirty Bird a Rebuild

So, I'm thinking in the next 10000-15000 miles, I might just have to rebuild my engine. Its starting to give me some alarming problems, and is approaching the 150k mark. Going to rip it completly apart, replace anything that needs to go, and try to get stuff running right.

My question is, does anyone that has dealt with ripping the 3.4L shitbucket V6 engines apart have any advice? Anything that would be a good idea to buy aftermarket rather than OEM? Anything I should/shouldn't replace, or a certian method to the madness of ripping shit apart and replacing it? As far as performance goes, if theres an aftermarket part that costs about the same as OEM, and is about the same reliability wise, then I'm all for it, otherwise i'm mainly concerned about making the car more dependable; but by all means, if you've got a good tip for the 'project', then share it.

And yes, I'm aware this probably isn't cost effective, but this'll be the first fuel injected engine I've rebuilt, and I want to learn.

why bother with that 3400?

for what its gonna cost you for the shitbucket, you may as well get a 350 crate motor or something...make that Fbody kick some ass!

I considered that, and in fact, I think I could get a fuel injected 350 going with a bunch of OEM shit for real cheap...the problem comes in with the rest. Upgrade breaks, transmission, accessories, ECU, rearend, suspension. Shit, by the time I'm done I've spent at least a good 4000 - now if a good donor car rolls around, thats another story, but this is a ways down the road, and remember, I'm still building the Mustang...but ya know what...I might prolong the rebuild a few tens of thousands of miles and just swap to a V8. Insurance pwns me, as does my desire for a track car (the Stang) and a badass road car.

I would sell it before it needs a rebuild. at that point the car will be worthless.
