Default Dex Cool or the green stuff...and internal engine cleaning...

Since im replacing the headgaskets (slowly but surely between work, school, weather and when im not in excrutiating pain), when its all cleaned up and back together, should i switch to dexcool? will i get any benefit? the dexcool is supposed to be more friendly on the gaskets supposedly? (the car is a 95 LT1)

also, before i get everything back togehter, whats the best way to clean out the motor from the crappy oil/coolant mixture? unfortunately, i dont have a garden hose readlily available (i live in an apartment, and doing this in the parking lot.) the radiator i can just yank out and take it to a hose and flush it out completely, but the motor is gonna be hard to do lol. but once its back together, i can run it somewhere (35 miles away) to families house in pasco and flush the coolant again and refill it but im not thinking thats a great idea.

any thoughts?

dex cool leads to less build up in the coolant passages throughout, and is easier on seals

so i would do it if its able to be done

Well the car has been sitting there awhile, Id say let the oil drain out, than leave a bucket under it over night. Clean out your pushrods, and the top of your heads clean out the lifters, than just put good quality oil in it, than wait about 6 days, and change the oil again, than it should be ok.

Only way I have ever head to do it is change the oil like 2-3 times till it's clean. Go buy some uber cheap oil pour it in there, run it, change it. and repeat. Pretty sure you can keep the filter on there.

Dexcool is better for aluminum parts. Flush till its clear then do the 50% mix as normal. I swear by it as far as coolant is concerned.

true.. dexcool has silicate in it to help with everything, if you mix regular green and dexcool, it makes a nice sludge cause the silicate comes out.. Dexcool has been in every gm car since 95 or should have been (check your prod date on your door) at advance they sell a one size fits all kinda thing.. it works for dexcool or regular antifreeze.. i wouldnt suggest dexcool itself, just get the all makes all models brand of antifreeze. dexcool was suppose to last longer and cool better than regular green... so i understand.. it ended up just causing problems because everyone added green.. go gm!
