Default Camaro Exhaust?

Ok so Im helpin a buddy out with his 86 camaro iroc. It has the SB 305 in it and we were lookin into an exhaust set up for it. It currently has stock headers and a very poorly made custom Y-pipe which leads to a decent cat back setup with 2 1/2 inch piping. So what hes lookin to do is get the front part of the exhaust up to par. So whats the best set up on these motors. To me he should get some long tube headers and an X pipe but at this point he wants to stick with his current catback. SO are long tubes the way to go? If he runs those then I assume that he needs to get a custom Y pipe made to adapt the headers to the exhaust. I didnt come across a compatible Y pipe. Or should he just go with some shorties and a nice Y. Throw out some opinions. Thanks

on a 3rd gen maro lt's are only like 90 bucks uncoated
also just go with a decent 2.5" or 3" catback and a catless y-pipe

scrap all that. trade in the 305 for a 350 and just run open headers until he can get long tubes with a custom dual exhaust setup. he will love me later

pretty much everything that works on a 305 will work on a 350, so I say mod away until you got a decent 350 to drop in

As far as I know, there aren't any long tube headers available for those cars. They do make headers, but they arent long tubes per se.

SLP makes a pretty good header/Y pipe set up for the iroc.

Those things will rust out in less than 1 year on a daily driver. Those will fit an iroc? I assume they are just standard SBC headers.
