my car has been making funny noises when i accelerate from a complete stop, every now and then. I was just wondering, when something is wrong with your tranny, what kind of noises would your car be prone to making?

It's kindof hard to describe the noise. It's kindof harsh, not a grinding noise, but def not pleasant. It's the engine revving I'm assuming, not sure though. Help!

only when i turn the wheel completely to the right. i had my front bumper ripped halfway off though, and it started after that so i'm assuming that it's just the tire rubbing against the plastic? When I turn it to the left, there's no noise whatsoever. Yesterday I put more transmission fluid in it, and I haven't heard the noise since then, but that was only like 12 hours ago, so we'll see.

I would say that its your tranny. The fact that the sound stopped when you added fluid proves that, I think. There has to be a leak somewhere since the fluid usually doesn't burn up that much to make it grind. Put some cardboard under the car and see where its coming from. Even if the noise doesn't come back, you'll want to keep an eye on it because any grinding noise coming from the tranny is definitely not good. Might be okay, but if there are any more problems then take it to a shop.

on my 99 gtp, the starter was fucking up over time, and made all kinds of grinding and klanking noises while driving until the gear finally came off the shaft.

i wouldn't exactly call it a grinding noise... it's kindof ahh fuck... like a lawn mower kindof noise i guess. thats the closest thing i can think of. it's only when i accelerate, and it def came back.. so i guess the transmission fluid didn't do anything. when the car is idling, there's no odd noises whatsoever, only when i press on the gas. ??? i seriously dont know.

Yeah...thats how i meant to describe it, and its only on acceleration...you might want to try another starter, if not, you can always bring it back, it solved my problems after looking for that sound for months.

Thank you! I've been going crazy for like 2 months wondering what the noise is. I've had several people tell me it was the transmission, which freaked me out because that's an expensive thing to fix/replace. But my car doesn't slip gears or anything, hasn't lost any power. Basically, it's all just a noise. Can this do anything to the car over time?

No. eventually the starter will fall apart inside the bellhousing like mine did, and then you would really need a new one.
