uh oh. i went to goodyear to pic up my coworkers car keys and I decided to have the guy take a look at my car. He says there's nothing wrong with my starter, but I have a broken motor mount(which is hard to believe because i seriously JUST had one fixed like 2 weeks ago.) and he says the noise is from my exhaust. He told me I should get new mufflers because the exhaust system for my car is insanely expensive. I don't know what to think now. WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR?? I've seriously never put so much money into a car for repairs. This is so sad.

I seriously had the same exact thing, after brand new headers, u bend removed, and full cat-back the noise was still there, i even took my starter out, and inspected it, it looks ok, the noise is internal, and i drove it like that until the starter shaft broke. replaced the starter and it was gone, pontiac told me the noise was the exhaust too when i took it their because it was under warranty, its not the exhaust.

I'm going to go with what you're saying. A new starter is a lot less costly than a new exhaust. The thing about the exhaust that I didn't really buy is the fact that this noise sounds like it's coming from the front, not the back. And my exhaust is def not under warranty anymore, so they would've made a few bucks off of me by replacing it. The guy even looked underneath and was like "oh, you have the really really nice exhaust." Meaning: This is going to cost you. What would you say is a fair price for a new starter?

Im not sure, ive always replaced my own parts...but when i did service work, it was usually between $140-180, depending on car and parts.

Well, that's not too bad. I know someone who can replace the starter for me. I just need to buy it.

nope, that's asking for a rip off. the only time i go somewhere to get repairs done is when it's something big.

Not sure where you're at with this, but it could be an exhaust leak. My friend's car had one and it sounded like a lawnmower whenever he would accelerate. It's pretty easy to fix (and cheap) if you can find it. A muffler shop should be able to run a sniffer if you can't tell by ear.

you may wanna try a different place, maybe someone you know can take a look at it. Can you describe exactly when this is happening, RPM, Speed, is the car hot or cold, wheel turned any direction? A/C on or off? It could be a heat sheild rattling against the actual exhaust making a noise.
