Default **Motor Questions**New to GM

I have an 83 Cutlass with a 231 in it. I am looking to put a v8 in it but am not sure what type of setup will be best. I'm not looking to race, just a little more power. What type of tranny would I need? Can I use the stock and just rebuild it? Like I said, I'm new to GM's and any help that you guys can give me is greatly appreciated. If anyone has a setup that I could use for sale, let me know. Thanks.

Isn't the '83 Cutlass FWD? If it's FWD, you're basically F'd on putting a V8 in. If it's RWD, it should just drop in. Go buy a crate GM 350. It'll definitely move you around with a comfortable amount of HP and TQ and it won't break the wallet.

It's a RWD. What is the price range for a crate 350 and from where?

Locally? Gearhead Performance, Automotive Engineering, even Advance Auto Parts. A stock 350 long block goes for like $1200-$1500 I think.

I don't see why not. Why even rebuild it? I run a stock 1967 M20 transmission from a 100hp L6 Camaro. I'm pushing 300hp and 330lbs of torque to it right now. For a while I ran a 350/330 327ci smallblock to it!

I've got a '65 'vette 327 that I've been kicking around, but I can't quite bring myself to get rid of it yet. Check with Spoonfed on here. He works are Advance Auto and might know a deal on a smallblock through his work
